If the Social Contract Continues to be Ignored by the Powers-That-be, Society Cannot Endure.

Image
" Man is a moral being only because he lives in society. Let all social life disappear, and morality will disappear with it ." Emile Durkheim As sociological pioneers go, Emile Durkheim is one of my favorites.  His work centered on the importance of family, religion and social bonds.  He saw the correlation between social pathologizes and a lack of connection to important institutions that gave life meaning. He also stressed the importance of society working through cooperation, similar to the social contract spoken of by Locke and Rousseau. The reason I make reference to Durkheim you ask? Well, without a sense of social connection a society cannot survive. The importance of this metaphysical agreement between individuals, families, networks, and eventually between people and government cannot be ignored, but apparently the powers-that-be in today's western societies have decided they no longer need to follow this contract between equals because, in their minds, power i...

The Importance of Recognizing the Difference Between Psychopaths (High v. Low Functioning).

Image
“Sure, I admit we may have gone way beyond the pale but we should not feel guilty. That is just a waste of emotion.”   Janet, "The Destiny of Our Past" Most people believe that all humans think the way they do.  They believe that they feel fear, dread, love, empathy and anxiety just like they do. They believe wrong, and this can leave them vulnerable in ways they cannot imagine.   Psychopaths are an interesting segment of the population.  They are not "crazy" in the way Hollywood portrays them, they just don't see the world, or react to it, as most people do.  Here are some of their most notable characteristics: Glib and superficial charm. The ability to lie, or important in American politics, reconstruct the truth with creativity. Lack of empathy. Lack of guilt. A grandiose sense of self. Easily bored and a need for higher-than-average stimulation. Highly competitive. And, ironically, they tend to be psychically attractive due to wanting to k...

If You Won't Own Anything, Then Who Will? Technocracy v. Communism. There is a Subtle Difference.

Image
"The theory of communism may be summed up in the single sentence: Abolition of private property" Karl Marx "You'll own nothing" -- And "you'll be happy about it."  Klaus Schwab  At first glance, it appears that Marx and Schwab are kindred souls. However, while many people have asserted that the ideas of today's technocratic "elite" are communistic, that may not be entirely accurate.  Marx had a vision of a utopia that would see, at least in theory, humans elevated to an ideal of communal industries run by local communities for the benefit of each other. Yes, I know, as Freud noted in " Civilization and its Discontents " socialism sounds great, but it runs against basic rules of human nature in its assumptions.  Collectivism just doesn't work within a secular, societal, context. However, what many technocrats envision for our future could be labeled as "techno-feudalism" and, while its assumptions may also ru...

Will Corona Virus Be the Beginning of the End of Our Rights?

Editor's note:  Feel free to subscribe to my YouTube channel and check out links to published works at the end of this article. "If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stomping on a human face - forever." George Orwell "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain temporary security will deserve neither and lose both."  Benjamin Franklin A question: If closing down any/most economic activity, social gathering (including religious services) and restricting people to home quarantine would save ten million American lives, if a disease were raging similar to the Spanish Flu, would it be justified? I believe most people would say yes.  Okay, what if it would same one million? Again, probably most people.  So how about a quarter-million? One hundred thousand? Fifty thousand? Well, how about ten thousand? During this Corona virus outbreak we have seen Democrat governors grind the economy to a halt, as well as impose restrictions o...

The Perfect Authoritarian Citizen. He Wants You to Conform to His Image.

"Intolerance of Ambiguity is the mark of an authoritarian personality."                                                                                                                   Theodor Adorno This is a hypothetical interview with a person who has an authoritarian personality, that is, he wants more rules imposed so the world will be, well, a more orderly place.  The Corona virus has really shown us that many regula...

The Real Problem is Too Few Children Being Born

Author's note:  Please check the links to my YouTube channel and published works at the end of the article. " Assuming there is a benevolent future with AI, I think the biggest problem the world will face in 20 years is population collapse. "  Elon Musk The above quote comes from an article on CNBC titled, "Elon Musk and Jack Ma agree: The biggest problem the world will face is population collapse." (9/3/19)  "But wait" you may ask, "Isn't the population growing too fast for sustainability?" We hear alarmists say we need to get young people, particularly in western nations and the USA, to stop having kids for the sake of the environment.  The alternative, they say, is human overpopulation and environmental disaster.  Yet it appears they are taking a complex issue and making assumptions that don't really fit reality. First, at least in reference to developed nations, population is going up, but this is because we are finding...

Will Our Loss of Connection Lead to Techno Assimilation?

Note: Check out the link at the bottom of the page to visit my YouTube channel. Links to my books are there as well.          I was speaking to a young woman today who has an interest in the topic of artificial intelligence. I asked her if she would accept the idea of being merged with a computer and losing her conscious; becoming an avatar of the computer. She asked if she would be more efficient and I noted she would be, but she, herself, would be dead while her brain and body functioned in an enhanced manner. She said she would really like that and that it could solve many of today's social ills if everyone had that done to them...it would be the perfect society that had no racism, hate, war, pollution, waste of resources, etc. In other words, a giant ant colony run by a "queen" AI system. People would still reproduce, but at a certain age they would get the implant and cease to exist as individuals. It would be the final evolution of the indus...
