“How paramount the future is to the present when one is surrounded by children .”   Charles Darwin “Children are a heritage from the Lord…” Psalms 127: 3-5 I was in a discussion with a small group of people a while back in which the topic of marriage and family ideals came up.   One young woman said her goal was, upon graduating college, marriage and having a large family. A young man, influenced by environmentalism, said that maybe his not having children would benefit earth. The woman noted she had studied the topic and that the “overpopulation myth” was more propaganda than reality. She presented her position quite well, but I doubt she converted him. And no wonder since the idea that we should see childbirth as a bad thing is firmly institutionalized in western culture since the early 1970s. No wonder the birthrate has plummeted to record lows. Marcus Garvey Today’s consumeristic society, largely driven by pride, greed and envy, appears on the outside as the apex of human achievement. Who doesn’t get a feeling of awe gazing from a hillside vista over the lights of Los Angeles on a dark night? If man is the measure of all things, and we have been able to create such an advanced economic, technological network that encompasses the whole world in the form of globalistic almost-living extension of human creativity and endeavor then, in some respects, it seems absurd to question where we are, and where we are going, by proposing that we must strive to re-connect with our ancestral traditions and spiritual insights.
